My name in the Chinese characters is 王琛 (Pinyin: Wáng Chēn, the family name comes first in the Chinese names). 琛 (Chen) stands for 'Jade' in the Chinese language, which is traditionally deemed as a symbol of nobility.
I practice Protestant Christianity. In the past, I have been a group leader of various fellowships and Bible study groups. The faith provides an excellent inspiration and platform for me to get involved in various public services, including transit services for new international students, Christmas shoebox gifts for children, and mask purchase and donations during COVID-19.
I used to be a trombone player in symphony orchestras. In the past, I played for Northwestern Polytechnical University Symphony Orchestra and UCL Symphony Orchestra. I also played in multiple avocational wind bands.
During the 2021 - 2022 academic year, I was the president of the Computer Science Graduate Student Society (CSGSS) and I was very fortunate to have organized events with the amazing Kalliopi Basioti, Harsha Tirumala, Aravind Sivaramakrishnan, and Neelesh Kumar. CSGSS is a community to further the social, cultural, and academic interests of the students in the graduate program in the Department of Computer Science. If you are a Rutgers CS graduate student, don't forget to join through this webpage!
I was very fortunate to have served in the Rutgers University Senate as a Senator representing the Graduate Student Association (GSA) during the 2019-2020 academic year. Together with my colleagues in the Academic Standards, Regulations and Admissions Committee, we worked on issues that concern the academic activities of faculties and students.
